PEOPLE living near the St Peter's School site have received another "Dear neighbour" letter.

This time those good neighbours are proposing a new road entrance to the site down Westminster Road to take pressure off the entrance in Queen Anne's Grove.

No doubt the Liberal Democrat administration will be falling over themselves to help much the same way they did with the attempted (ongoing) closure of the footpath through the school.

It is about time the council dealt properly with this problem for the people of York.

Many St Peter's, St Olave's and Bootham School pupils are driven into school and this congests the roads around Clifton Green, Westminster Road and Bootham during term time.

I should like to see the council and schools work closely together and provide school buses from some of the Park & Ride sites directly to the schools.

If not, then perhaps the schools could encourage parents and pupils to use the Park and Ride No 2 bus which already stops at Clifton Green (five minutes from St Peter's) and then could, feasibly, stop outside Bootham School at the top of Queen Charlotte's Grove and outside St Peter's.

This would relieve pressure on the road network around Clifton Green, give additional income to Park & Ride, reduce pollution, give the parents more free time, remove the need for the new road from Westminster Road and save the school money.

The only losers would be the children forced to use public transport, although waiting for buses may teach them some patience and walking to the bus stops may improve their fitness.
