FIREFIGHTERS were called to a pub after a fellow fireman got his hand stuck in a seat while playing dominoes.

The embarrassing incident happened just after last orders had been called at The Elizabethan in Finkle Street, Selby.

Firefighter Andrew Strelchzenie, 20, was enjoying an off-duty pint with three friends when he dropped one of his dominoes down the side of a bench seat under the front window.

Andrew, from Hemingbrough, swung into action, diving underneath the seat and shoving his arm inside so he could continue playing with what he believed was a winning hand.

Some 20 minutes later, his hand was still there - well and truly stuck over the top of a bracket.

A pub regular phoned the fire brigade, who arrived wWith lights flashing and siren blaring, only to find that Andrew had been released a minute earlier.

Pub landlord Joe Spence said: "The poor lad couldn't move and I couldn't do anything for laughing.''

A red-faced Andrew, who works for the Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigade but still lives in Hemingbrough, said: "I was on a winning streak when I dropped the domino - but that's what happens when you've had a few beers.

"I eventually got free using brute force."
