CAR dealers and other traders are being invited to help expand an annual classic motorcycle rally hosted by the chairman of Selby District Council.

Councillor Brian Thorne, whose term of office is nearing its end, is trying to ensure the event to be held on the May Bank Holiday weekend is the biggest and best yet. He said: "On Saturday, May 2, I am hoping to attract a number of local car dealers and trade stands to expand the already popular classic motorcycle rally held for a number of years in Selby. The event is planned for the civic centre car park in Portholme Road, which will allow for significant facilities for participants and the public."

Coun Thorne added: "This event will raise funds for the three charities that I have chosen to support during my chairman's year."

The charities that will benefit from the event are Selby Animal Sanctuary at Hambleton; Selby & District DIAL (Disablement Information Advice Line); and the Selby District Peter Pan Nursery for children with special needs at Sherburn-in-Elmet.
