THE Diana tribute show that kept changing its title and dates in York has now been cancelled.

The nationwide tour of Diana, The Ultimate Tribute, will not be visiting the Grand Opera House on March 3 and 4 for "an enchanting performance of the Princess of Wales's favourite music, dance and song".

The gala show by the English Dance Company and the National Festival Singers was intended to "honour the memory of Diana, who loved to dance", with a donation from every ticket sale going to a selection of Diana's favourite charities.

Originally called Princess, the show was first booked in for January 6 to 10, but was then re-named Candle In The Wind, A Gala Tribute To Diana and put back to February 22 and 23, only to be moved again, to February 5 and 6.

Next came another alteration to the title and dates, before all that indecision proved final. "The show would have had to be absolutely perfect, so that's why the producers kept delaying the tour," said Opera House manager Ian Sime. "We're very disappointed for the hundreds of patrons who did want to see this show, but we're delighted to announce that they can exchange their tickets for the first night of the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre's Swan Lake on April 20.

"It should be a hugely spectacular show with a company of more than 100 people including stars of the Kirov Ballet, and patrons should note that the exchange deal is good value as the ballet tickets are infinitely more expensive, with the cheapest ticket for the Diana show costing £5 compared to £12.50 for Swan Lake," he adds.

However, anyone who would prefer a refund should ring the theatre on 01904 671818 or call at the box office on Clifford Street.
