York Racecourse is under starter's orders for the first World of Racing Exhibition which opens tomorrow.

Up to 30,000 visitors are expected to flock to Knavesmire during the three-day event.

Big-name horses will be on display including Desert Orchid, Jodami, Double Trigger and The Grey Monk.

The programme includes two pageants each day of the exhibition - The Retired Racehorse Pageant and The Star Horse Parade.

Grand National winners Mr Frisk and Royal Athlete will be led out by Desert Orchid in the Retired Pageant. Mr Frisk is currently eventing and Royal Athlete competing in dressage.

This famous group will be joined by trainer Jenny Pitman's Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Garrison Savannah, who now acts as schoolmaster at Mrs Pitman's Lambourn stables.

Burrough Hill Lad, Double Blue, Trainglot, and The Fellow are other star horses who will be on parade.

The exhibition is open to everyone interested in horse racing. There will be more than 100 exhibitors connected with the industry, a Shetland Pony Grand National, and demonstrations of breaking-in and training racehorses.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and children go free.
