Scarborough's troubles continued as they went down 1-0 at Cardiff City, with poor defending to blame for the decisive goal.

The strike came five minutes into the second half from former Coventry forward John Williams. Former York City defender Paddy Atkinson was caught out of position by the lanky front man when Richard Carpenter curled a ball into the penalty area and Williams, who had been a threat during the first half, put the ball past Tony Elliott.

Williams returned the favour by setting up Carpenter with a great chance but the midfielder spurned the opportunity.

Boro boss Mick Wadsworth withdrew Atkinson, bringing on Neil Campbell, and put Gareth Williams at left back, and later pushed defender Alex Marinkov into attack, but although there was much huff and puff they posed little threat to the Cardiff defence.
