A mother today appealed for information about her son, who disappeared without trace after a night out with friends in Selby.

Jason Lee Clover, who is 28 years old, was last seen in the town on Saturday after spending the day watching the England football match against Poland and drinking in pubs around Selby.

Worried friends spent Sunday trawling the town for Jason, who was described by his mother as sensible and streetwise.

"This is totally out of character," said Mrs Clover, who lives in Haig Street.

"His twin brother and I are just trying to keep each other going, because this is very troubling for us."

Jason, who moved to Leeds from Selby in October, came home at the weekend as normal to see his family and friends. He watched the football match at the Grey Horse pub in Brayton, before heading into Selby with his brother and friends at around 4.30pm.

They visited the Abbey Vaults and the Griffin, and Jason was last seen by his brother leaving the Londesborough Arms at around 10.30pm.

He has not been seen since.

A police spokeswoman said they were "extremely concerned" for his welfare.

"By all accounts he was in a good mood when he was last seen," said PC Louise Taylor, who is leading the investigation.

"He has a good job and a new flat - everything to live for - and there is no apparent reason why he should go missing."

She added: "If for any reason Jason feels unable to contact his family we would urge him to contact any police station so that we can let his family know he is safe and well."

Jason, who went to Selby High School, is well known around the town. He is described as 5ft 5in tall, of slim build, with browny-green eyes and short dark brown hair.

When last seen he was wearing a light blue Armani shirt, dark blue jeans and black shoes.

Anyone with any information about his whereabouts should contact Selby police on 01757 702596.
