Your article Danger Traffic Lights Scheme Delayed (May 14) was no surprise to those following the progress of the consultation. From the beginning when the scheme was proposed, it was obvious that a public inquiry would result.

At the first presentation in Copmanthorpe, comment was made about the slip road off the A64 to Tadcaster Road. Presently at 9am there are tail-backs of traffic on this slip road at London Bridge.

The present length of the slip road allows traffic to be accommodated. With the proposed scheme the tail back will now start at the proposed western signal controlled junction just before the railway. The traffic will now back up onto the A64 itself and will be concealed by the bend in the road by Pike Hills. This must be potentially more dangerous than the present situation.

Surely the solution is to impose a speed limit to slow vehicles.

Adoption of advance warning that the light are about to change would also help. As these measures are successful in other countries, there is no reason why they would not be successful here.
