Fulford are striving to retain the division one trophy in the IT Sports York and District Mixed Tennis League after a big win at Dunnington and a 55-53 victory at Poppleton.

Joe Reddick and Jill McCreedy were Fulford's top scorers in both matches.

York I are in second place, also with a perfect record, after they beat Civil Service 72-36. Their first pairing of Andy Cooke and Wendy Shepherd won all three rubbers 10-2.

Civil Service gained their first win when they entertained York III and won 63-45 thanks to a final round 10-2 win by top scorers Chris Sorby and Susie Mason.

Dunnington I moved into third after their 67-41 win against Poppleton, although none of the Dunnington couples could beat Poppleton's John Moore and Belinda Turnbull.

Appleton Roebuck top division two after their 67-41 win at Stillington, just ahead of Poppleton on games difference. Appleton Roebuck's David Bradley and Judy Marriott won 29 games.

Poppleton are the only other unbeaten team after they beat Sherburn 62-46. Hugh Fowles and Sue Peach were Poppleton's top scorers with good support from Richard and Rosie Cantrell.

Selby picked up their first win, beating Civil Service. Selby's Derek Andrews and Janet Lumley were top scorers with 25 games.

Bishopthorpe beat York in the fixture of the only two unbeaten teams to head division three.

They won 69-39 with their number one couple of Chris Sharples and Jane Parkin top scoring with 25 games, followed closely by Neil Richards and Katy Faulkner.

Tollerton recorded their first win, 63-45 against Riccall, with Nick Thompson and Wendy Strike leading the way.

New Earswick also won their first match with a 61-47 success at Castlegarth.

York moved into second place after they beat Sutton-on-Derwent 56-52.

Fulford II lead division four after beating Wigginton 78-30. Govind and Anna Baker won 28 games while brother Tom emulating Govind's score when partnering Linda Irving.

Cawood won their first match, 61-47 at Copmanthorpe, with Richard and Carolynne Taylor winning all three rubbers.

Stillington top division five after they won 61-47 at Tadcaster with Ben Cookman and Sara Cook coming away unbeaten. Fulford are in second place on games difference as the only other unbeaten team after a 57-51 win at New Earswick.

Strensall recorded their first win, against Rowntree Park, with Richard Pears and Alison Smethurst leading the way.

Bubwith top division six after defeating previously unbeaten Civil Service 77-31. Doug Smith and Margaret Stevenson were in good form winning 27 games and, matched by Shaun Pinchbeck and Jill Schofield.

Poppleton maintained their unbeaten record with a 56-52 at Bishopthorpe. Bob Jones and Sue Sandle were unbeaten for Poppleton but were made to fight hard by Bishopthorpe's top scorers Martin Eason and Chris Smith.

There is a five-way tie in division seven, all teams having lost one match.

Appleton Roebuck are top after defeating Strensall 56-52 thanks to their top scorers of Mike Hickman and Chris Howatt winning 29 games to leave Strensall in second place.

Sutton-on-Derwent are third after they won at Cawood 68-40. Christopher French and Christel Hetherton were Sutton's top scorers, just ahead of unbeaten Christopher Hobson and Goldie Raley.

Wigginton beat New Earswick to leave New Earswick as the only team without points. Wigginton's top scorers were Tony Howatt and Barbara Streather.

Wistow lead division eight after they made it three out of three with a 64-44 win at Dunnington. Alan Hearn and Sue Hudson crucially won their second match 11-1.

Rufforth made it three points from four with a 66-42 win at Wilberfoss, whose Brian Claydon and Judith Evans won 30 games. The same pairing were again their side's top scorers in their draw against Tollerton.

Civil Service managed their first win against Wigginton in division nine. All three Service couples played solidly but were unable to defeat Wigginton's Mike Anderson and Hilary Bogue.

Castlegarth have taken the lead after beating Cliffe 63-45. Five rubbers were drawn but top scorers Gary Jones and Rachel Butterworth secured the points with an 11-1 second round win.

David Knowles and Julie Buxton were too strong for Escrick against Sutton-on-Derwent, gaining 31 games to help their team to the top of division ten.

Riccall won by the biggest margin of the week, beating Tollerton 88-20. Riccall's top scorers were Terry Knowles and Karen Hutchinson with 33 games, Stuart Fryer and Sue Shouksmith also weighing in with 30 games.

Men's League: Leaders set standard

Leaders Rowntree Park maintained their unbeaten record with victory over York in the only match in division one of the Tyke Petroleum Men's Tennis League.York's Graham Smith and Howard Pallister were the match top scorers.

Unbeaten Riccall moved into second place in division two with Mark Allitt and Rex Pocklington scoring 25 against Sherburn.

Appleton Roebuck had a comfortable win over Wheldrake in division three thanks to 30 games from Malcolm Blackwell and Matt Kilgallon. Sutton on Derwent beat Poppleton III 74-34, their three couples scoring 28, 23 and 23.

Strensall II went top of division five with a 64-44 win over Sutton on Derwent II, 27 games coming from M Brown and C Evans.

In Cawood II's victory over New Earswick in division six, 27 games went to Gavin Dickie and Chris Abbott.

Cawood climb to league's summit

Cawood went top of the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League second division after beating Tollerton 58-50.

In a hard fought encounter, Sue Matchett and Georgina Worley were the only couple to have three straight wins.

Promoted sides York II and Wheldrake drew 54-54. Wheldrake's third string partnership of Helen Roe and Jackie Williams collected 22 games in three straight wins.

Bubwith are the only side in division three with three successive victories and went two points clear at the top after beating Dunnington 71-37. They won all nine rubbers with Viv Williamson and Margaret Stevenson leading the way with 25 games.

Castlegarth's Dot Macintosh and Sue Jacklyn amassed 32 games as their team crushed Wistow 70-38 to move second on points difference from Cliffe, who were 60-48 victors over Poppleton.

Mary Smith and Joanne Davis got Cliffe off to a flying start, winning 11-1, 9-3 and 9-3.

Riccall are the only unbeaten team in division four, chalking up their third successive win against Wigginton. But they had a shock when Wigginton went into the third round 37-35 up with Denise Crane and Pauline Wreglesworth winning 11-1. But Sarah Clay and Sue Shouksmith enjoyed a 12-0 whitewash and Michelle Osborne and Jen Tongue won 7-5 to see Riccall sneak home 55-53.

Newcomers Knaresborough II have made a fine start to their fifth division campaign. Their 65-43 win over Wheldrake came after Janet Kerslake and Pat Stevenson had opened up with a 10-2 lead and went on to win 23 games, just two less than top scorers Janet Robinson and Noreen Hamblin.

York and Appleton Rosebuck continued to set the pace at the top of division one. York beat Dunnington 60-48, number one pairing Carla Pawson and Phillipa Ashley winning 22 goals - just one less than Dunnington's Jean Neafey and Jenny Ashley.

Appleton Roebuck edged out Selby 58-50 with the in-form pairing of Sue Fish and Judy Marriott winning 24 games to become the only couple to clock up three wins.
