The woman who spent a night in comedian Lenny Henry's hotel room in York today said nothing happened between them.

Blonde Merri Cheyne, who met Henry, 40, after his one-man show at the city's Barbican Centre earlier this month, said: "We didn't have sex - he didn't so much as kiss me.

"I admit I was willing, I was able, I had a huge crush on him and flirted all night, but he rejected me."

Australian Ms Cheyne, 26, told The Mirror that she felt "humiliated" at being rejected by the star, who is married to comedienne Dawn French.

She added: "I completely misread the situation. When he realised he was alone with a piece of blonde fluff who clearly fancied him, he wanted me out of there.

"He was the most married man I have ever met. I might as well have had a crush on Jesus Christ."

Henry and Ms French locked themselves away at their home in Reading, Berkshire, following revelations in The Sun on Monday that he had spent a night at the Royal York Hotel with Ms Cheyne. Neither the stars nor their agents - PBJ Management for Henry, and Peters, Fraser and Dunlop for French - have made any comment.

Henry is in the final stages of a 35-date UK tour. During his stage shows, he had talked of his happy home and called his 41-year-old wife his "life partner".

In his first public appearance since the allegations, he cracked a joke about them.

Appearing last night before a sell-out audience at the Fairfield Hall in Croydon, south London, he said: "If there are any members of the press in the audience, Lenny is currently staying at the Selsdon Park Hotel."
