Planes are not the only mode of transport on display at this weekend's Elvington Air Spectacular.

An RAF Tornado similar to those which will be seen at the Elvington Air Spectacular

Among the Hurricanes, Sopwiths and Tornadoes there will be a motorcycle stunt rider attempting aerial tricks of his own.

Jason Smyth will be performing his daredevil show on the last day of the Evening Press-sponsored three-day event which runs from Saturday until Monday.

The 27-year-old has diversified from a career in moto-cross to produce, organise and star in his own spectacular stunt show, simulating the danger and skills of the highest and longest superjumps.

The show consists of a variety of stunts including wheelies, fire jumps, jumping moving vehicles and driving a car on two wheels.

Also taking place on the Monday, and more in keeping with an air show, there will be a tribute to Sir Thomas Sopwith - a unique flypast which has never been previously attempted anywhere in the world. A formation of Sopwith and Hawker fighters spanning 83 years will assemble over Elvington Airfield to pay tribute to the aviation pioneer 'Tommy' Sopwith and his two chief designers, Herbert Smith, a Yorkshireman, and Sidney Camm.

A Sopwith Triplane, a Hawker Hurricane, a Hawker Sea Fury and a Hawker Harrier will all join the flypast.

See tomorrow's Evening Press for a full run-down of this weekend's aviation antics at the Evening Press-sponsored Elvington Air Spectacular.
