Some of Dunnington's cricketers will be able to put the controversial suspension of the club behind them on Sunday when a Costcutter XI line up against a star-studded Bunbury XI in a charity game at Common Road.

The visitors have named a side containing six internationals and a string of celebrities.

They will be led by former Northamptonshire star Wayne Larkins, who will have fellow England men Monty Lynch (Surrey), Tim Munton (Warwickshire), David Capel (Northants) and David Smith at his disposal as well as West Indian star Wendell Coppin.

Adding power to the batting line-up are Phil Robinson, the former Yorkshire and Leicestershire man, Surrey's David Ward and Rob Bailey of Northants.

The star men are supplemented with a duo of 'Emmerdale' TV soap actors - Fraser Hines (Joe Sugden), Chris Chittell (Eric Pollard) and former FA Chief Executive Graham Kelly.

The Costcutter XI will be skippered by Colin Graves, who is managing director of Costcutter and chairman of Dunnington CC whose skipper Simon Kellett is in the home side along with fellow Dunnington players Steve Linton, Harwood Williams, Matthew Stacey, Darren Avey, Paul Miles, Chris Burgess, Steve Precious, Paul Spofforth, Dave Kitching - plus former West Indies Test star Alvin Kallicharan.

Admission to the 35-overs a side game, which starts at 2pm, is free and will include a raffle and a performance by a Carribean steel band.

The Bunbury team play throughout the country to raise cash for a variety of charities and have received a cash lump sum from Costcutter to boost their charity fund.

Dunnington were suspended from the Costcutter York and District Senior Cricket League for refusing to provide a written assurance before an extra-ordinary general meeting on Tuesday that they accepted suspensions issued a few weeks ago to fast bowler Joseph Grant.

Dunnington first and second teams were also relegated and will have to re-apply to join the league at the annual meeting which was actually scheduled to be held at Dunnington on Tuesday, October 19. The AGM will now be held at Stillington.

Dunnington, as League Cup holders, were scheduled to meet the premier division champions on Sunday, September 12, in the annual League Challenge match.

The league's management committee are to meet to decide who will replace Dunnington in that fixture.
