As the league stage of the York and District Table Tennis Summer League draws to a close, York INL 'A' have a half a point lead at the top of section 'B' after beating third place team Nestl Rowntree 61/2-31/2.

Keith Bojas was unbeaten, Alfie Potter won two and Steve Potter drew one for INL with Rowntree's Barry Thomas winning two, Brian Milner one and Dave Norville drawing one.

RI 'B' in second place ended RI 'E's hopes of a semi-final place by beating them 8-2. Peter Kirby and Richard Crowther were both unbeaten with Mike Dinsdale winning one but losing to Brian Walton and Howard Broadbent.

RI 'D' in seventh place are the only other team in the section with a mathematical chance of qualifying for the semis, were beaten 71/2-21/2 by RI 'E' Betty Norman won all her games with Mike Dinsdale and Howard Broadbent winning two each. Geoff and Richard Leafe won one each for the 'D' side, who have a busy week ahead playing four matches.

Philip Gledhill and Paul Gravett both won two and Rick Gledhill one for fourth place South Bank, who drew with York INL 'B'. Martyn Symons won two with Graham and Martin Hood winning one each and the doubles for INL.

In Section 'A', York INL 'C' have pulled out a three point lead at the top after beating second place team RI 'C' 7-3. Martyn Symons won three with John Young and Chris Hutchinson winning two each, but both losing to Trevor Wright who won the doubles with his wife, Carole.

Smith and Nephew in fourth place still have a slender chance of a semi-final place after beating a two man side from Sessions 71/2-21/2. Bob Young won his two games, John Treacy won one and drew one and Mark Godliman won one. Sessions Gary Neads won one and drew one and took the doubles with Mike Surtees.

Joanne Somers, Richard McCarthy and Julian Somers each won two games as RI 'A' beat CSL 61/2-31/2 but player of the night was David Henersy who was unbeaten.

Third placed Fulford narrowly defeated Bootham 51/2-41/2. Mike Melling and Pete Miller won two each and Alan Milner won one and drew one but could not match Bootham's Robert Plant who won his three games. Neil Lynch drew one and Bootham won the doubles.
