Punters won't get fat on the proceeds - but Ramruma can complete an unbeaten campaign by winning tomorrow's Rothmans Royal St Leger, the final Classic of the Millennium at Doncaster.

Six wins from six starts is the admirable record of Henry Cecil's top-notch filly, who will be bidding for her third Classic triumph here, having won the English and Irish Oaks in mid-summer.

Ramruma gained her latest success in the Yorkshire Oaks on Knavesmire last month when she showed her customary relentless galloping to get the better of El Athena with the rest of the field well beaten off.

Tomorrow's step us to an extended one-and-three-quarter miles sees Ramruma into unknown territory, but her style of racing and dogged determination suggests this longer trip will serve her at least as well, if not better.

Not surprisingly, given her unblemished record, Ramruma is set to start as the long odds-on favourite to give Cecil his fifth St Leger success, and his first since Michelozzo in 1989.

It is hardly original to select her, but it is difficult, if not impossible to oppose Pat Eddery's mount. Noushkey, who failed to fire in the Yorkshire Oaks, but who chased home Ramruma in the Epsom Oaks and who won the Lancashire Oaks, is the one most likely to prove a thorn in her side tomorrow.

Mark Johnston can get on the Doncaster score sheet with Fez in the £45,000 Polypipe plc Fyling Childers Stakes. This speedy filly rattle-up a hat-trick of wins and was unlucky not to complete a four-timer on her latest start in the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood, where she met any amount of trouble before finishing second to Misty Miss. Rich compensation awaits Fez tomorrow.

Kim Tinkler, whose husband Nigel enjoyed a memorable Group 3 training triumph with the admirable Sugarfoot on Town Moor yesterday, can put her own name in the Doncaster frame by winning the Ladbroke Showcase Handicap on McGillicuddy Reeks.

A course and distance winner, McGillicuddy Reeks suffered major problems in running when narrowly beaten at Beverley recently and would surely have scored with a clear passage. She deserves another chance.

Headstrong horses who need to be produced late are meat and drink to jockey Richard Hughes, who is fancied to shine aboard nap selection Hornbeam in the Porcelanosa Handicap. A difficult ride, Hornbeam did not enjoy the best of runs when fourth to Sugarfoot in a valuable handicap at York last month. To finish as close as he did was a creditable display and he deserves serious consideration tomorrow.

At Goodwood, Sylva Paradise can continue Clive Brittain's excellent run by lifting the London Metro Newspaper Handicap.

Newmarket-based Brittain has his horses in fine form, and landed two Group-race wins at Doncaster this week. Sylva Paradise, a model of consistency, is overdue a win.

Kumait, caught in the final stride at Chester last time, can go one better in the MGM Assurance Handicap, while Male-Ana-Mou can complete a hat-trick of wins in the Highlands Spring/ROA Handicap.
