Your splendid picture of the Yew Garden at Heslington Hall (Evening Press, September 8), prompts me to ask whether any of your readers know the whereabouts of the striking multi-faceted 18th century sundial which used to stand among these yews?

It appears that it was removed with those yews nearest to the house when the site was being prepared for the university in about 1962. Photographs of the sundial do exist.

I should be most grateful for any information.
