An icon of steam brought the golden age of the railway back to North Yorkshire's tracks as the Green Arrow travelled through North Yorkshire.

The engine, built in 1936 and credited with helping Britain win the Second World War, ran from Selby to York and on to Scarborough as part of a private trip. Train enthusiasts lined the tracks to see the historic vehicle as it belched steam through the region.
The V2 engine, which is displayed in York's National Rail Museum, recently underwent restoration work to return it to its original splendour.Next year the train will take centre stage in one of the greatest festivals of steam ever witnessed.
The North East's Millennium Cavalcade of Steam, which commemorates the 175th anniversary of the birth of the railways, brings 40 of the most famous steam engines to Darlington.
