It was with mounting disbelief that I read the article on ozone levels in York (Evening Press, September 13). Hardly new information.
Holland and Denmark, knowing what was coming, tackled this problem 20 years ago. France has the best railway system in Europe and Germany seems to be making good progress to date.
The UK? Doing what the UK does best. Lagging 20 years behind everyone else. Setting up talking shops and writing so-called consultation documents
Still, I suppose we should be grateful. We live in the information age that enables us to make informed decisions, so I'm told. Really?
The only two options I can see this information gives are:
(a) Become imprisoned in your own home and get depressed because you can't get out.
(b) Venture outside and either get choked or flattened by half a ton of death-dealing steel and glass.
In short, Hobson's choice.
