With reference to the article 'Battle to tackle crime on the troubled streets', (Evening Press, August 10), I would like to clear up a few points.

The article mentioned that Chapelfields is in Westfield ward. Actually, only half of the 'area' is in Westfield, the other is in Acomb ward of which myself and Councillor David Horton are the representatives.

Also, the area that the trouble has mainly occurred in is that of the Acomb ward. Myself and Councillor Horton have been working with representatives of the council, community and other 'bodies' as we wish to tackle problems for the law abiding residents of the 'area'.

A few weeks ago, I met with Brian Asquith and members of 'First Bus' to discuss the provision of buses in the Chapelfields area on an evening. Since that time, myself and Councillor Horton have held talks with Inspector Bell of North Yorkshire Police to see how problems can be resolved. I have also talked to representatives of the other emergency services.

Tracey Simpson-Laing,

Councillor for Acomb Ward,

Carnot Street,

Leeman Road, York.
