Elizabeth Shouksmith being presented with a painting of York by club secretary John Bellerby, with fellow members of York RI Badminton Club.

Saddened York RI Badminton Club have bade farewell to the reign of their own 'queen' Elizabeth.

Club members gathered to pay tribute to Elizabeth Shouksmith, who has graced the all-conquering RI badminton ranks for nigh on 30 years.

The star player's RI association is soon to end when she emigrates to Spain. Club members, however, marked her imminent departure from York with a specially commissioned painting of the Minster by York artist Alan Stuttle.

Said club-mate Carol Deighton: "Liz has played for RI in numerous successes in the York Badminton League.

"She's represented Yorkshire and Yorkshire veterans and has been a credit to the club. She has been an excellent player whom we'll all miss very much."
