Gavin Hamilton was back in the Yorkshire squad at The Oval today for the final championship match of the season against new title holders Surrey.
But a final decision over whether Hamilton would play was not being taken until a late fitness test on his hamstring just before the toss.
Hamilton has missed the last two championship games with a nagging hamstring strain which also kept him out of several one day matches but he is eager to play in this game in order to prove his fitness ahead of England's tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe.
"It is my last chance of a match until we get to South Africa at the beginning of November and I would like to be able to sign off for the season with Yorkshire on a successful note," said Hamilton.
"I had my first net bowl at Headingley on Sunday and I have felt no adverse reaction over the past couple of days so I am fairly confident I will be all right."
There is also a slight doubt about Ryan Sidebottom who has a knee strain but both he and Hamilton are likely to play if fit, in which case either the out-of-form Matthew Wood or Richard Harden may stand down.
Yorkshire (v Surrey) from: Wood, Vaughan, Byas, Blakey, McGrath, White, Harden, Hamilton, Fellows, Silverwood, Sidebottom, Fisher.
