Nationwide Conference outfit Scarborough were today casting their eye over transfer-listed York City ace Andy McMillan.

On trial: Andy McMillan

McMillan, surprisingly listed by City manager Neil Thompson just eight games short of reaching 500 senior appearances, was playing for the Seasiders' reserves in their Pontin's League division one match against Shrewsbury at the McCain Stadium this afternoon.

Under Football League rules, a club can sign a player for two Pontin's League matches before stepping up their interest into a loan-deal or permanent switch.

South-African born McMillan has been detailed to train with the City youth team, along with fellow transfer-listed players Steve Agnew and Martin Reed, since he was told he had no future at Bootham Crescent.

Boro boss and former York City striker Colin Addison has been desperate to strengthen his side, who suffered their third defeat in a row at Northwich Victoria last night after making a promising start to the season.

And with right-back Mark Tyrell currently out with a hamstring injury the arrival of McMillan would provide some much needed defensive cover.

Ironically, McMillan played for Walsall reserves last month at Scarborough in a bid to land a permanent move to the Division One side.

However, despite the Saddlers winning 3-0, Walsall never followed up their interest in the 31-year-old.

At one point Walsall, their Nationwide Division One rivals Norwich City, plus Division Two sides Burnley and Scunthorpe were believed to be homing in on McMillan in the summer.

The right-back, who completed his testimonial year with City in a game against Premiership Leeds United at Bootham Crescent in July, has chalked up the second most appearances in City history.

His shock transfer-listing was announced shortly after City's relegation to the basement was confirmed.

Scarborough have also taken striker Andy Morris on loan from Rochdale with a view to a permanent signing.

The 6ft 4ins former Rotherham and Chesterfield striker has been brought in to add some much needed firepower to the Seasiders, who have failed to score in their last three games.

York City Reserves are in action tonight, at home to Lincoln City in the Pontin's League Division One (kick-off 7pm).

Victory over bottom club Lincoln could see City's second string, currently in fifth place, claim top spot if other results go their way.

City Reserves: Howarth, Dawson, Jones, Rennison, Keegan, Rowe, Agnew, Walters, M Thomspon, M Williams, Turley, J Williams, Marshall, Collinson, Dibie

Next Wednesday, City Reserves play host to Hull City in the Pontin's League Cup, kick-off 7pm.

They then welcome Hartlepool United to Bootham Crescent on Wednesday, October 13, in the same competition before travelling to Victoria Park the following week in the return fixture.

City take on Hull City at Boothferry Park on November 10.
