GOAL: Pocklington score against New Earswick in their Leeper Hare York and District League premier division match on Saturday.

Leeper Hare York and District League premier division leaders Pocklington were beaten 3-2 at New Earswick.

Pocklington were the better side in the early stages of the game, but they squandered their chances and a defensive slip cost them dearly.

Right from the kick-off, Pocklington put pressure on the home defence and gained a couple of corners.

New Earswick goalkeeper Simon Hammond made two great saves, one a well timed block, the other by tipping the ball over the crossbar.

Pocklington went ahead when Mick Murr worked well down the left and crossed the ball for Baz Gargett to net at the far post.

The villagers counter-attacked with a quick break, Adam Wash and Darren Hunter being their spearheads.

Murr was a constant threat to the home defence with his penetrating runs and crosses.

New Earswick equalised when Adam Wash latched on to a defensive slip to feed the unmarked Darren Hunter, who scored with ease.

Five minutes into the second half New Earswick went in front when Gavin Mears scored from the penalty spot.

New Earswick began to control the game and a quick break down the right was superbly finished off by Darren Hunter bagging his second goal.

At the other end Pocklington goalkeeper Carl Silburn made an outstanding save.

The visitors made a late rally to narrow the gap with a well taken goal by young Chris Tatterton, but they were unable to find an equaliser. Defender Andy Price had a good game for Pocklington.

Haxby overwhelmed visitors Osbaldwick 7-1 with a flurry of goals in the second half.

After an even first 20 minutes Haxby took the lead through Darren Ward. Craig McDonald made it 2-0 and just before the break Andy Triffit pulled a goal back for Osbaldwick.

Haxby added five goals in the second half, Dave Chandler, Dennis Speck, Craig McDonald and John Machen scoring. Osbaldwick were then reduced to ten men.

Some of their young players were making their premier division debut. Mark Andrews and Dave Watson played well, while Jez Hanboro was outstanding in Haxby's midfield.

Rufforth were at their best in beating visitors Huntington Rovers 5-1, although the game was much closer than the result indicates.

Striker Phil Jones bagged four goals, Andy Moss and Tom McKay playing a big part. Rufforth's fifth was an own goal.

Rovers' goal came when Paul Pemberton drove in a shot on the turn, which goal keeper Chris Maude could only parry, leaving John Colley to snap up his chance to score.

Dunnington, after a bright first half, lost their way in the second and slumped 5-1 at CGU.

The visitors dominated the first half and by the end of the first half should have had more than their one goal lead netted by Rich Carr.

In the second half Dunnington seemed to lose their way. Their work rate and commitment gradually faded, which allowed the hard working Insurencemen to take over and put five passed the village side's goalkeeper.

Matt Devereax scored twice for CGU, Chris Love netted with a header, and there was a goal each from Phil McArdle and Fonawain Atang.
