A friend sent me the article 'Night Power Station Blew Up' (October 25) which brought back memories.

My father, Arthur Henry Horwell, was the only person killed in the explosion. At the time, my mother was unable to obtain any detailed information about the event, although there was an official inquiry and a report, the latter of which was not made available to the Horwell family.

My mother received £3,000 in a one lump settlement. A paltry sum even by the standards of the day. To receive periodic payments for this small stipend, she was required to attend local court offices, because the authorities did not trust her with the vast sum of money.

She died in 1973 not fully understanding the reasons behind her husband's death. If anyone in York could tell me how I might obtain a copy of the report of the official inquiry, I should be grateful. I can be reached by e-mail through my son's- address which is opeongo@istar.ca or at the address below.
