REFLECTIONS: Brave cancer patient June Buckley shows off her new hairstyle which is expected to raise £200 for charity

Cancer patient June Buckley had a close shave to help raise money for breast cancer care.

June, 48, had the names of nine football teams shaved into her hair in front of an audience at her local pub, the Blue Bell in Alne, near Easingwold.

She was helped out by Mandy Hays, from the hairdressers Just Gents in nearby Easingwold.

June said she wanted to do something to raise the money before her hair started to fall out due to a course of chemotherapy.

Mandy took several requests for football teams over the hour-and-a-half the mammoth shave took.

June said: "It was a good night, I had a lot of support. My son and daughter came and around ten friends as well as pub regulars." To say thanks to the pub she also had Blue Bell shaved into her hair. She said it looked like she would raise £200.

June, who had a breast removed just before Christmas and said all the money she raised would go to Macmillan Breast Cancer Care nurses and the Cancer Care Centre at York District Hospital. She has now started her four-month chemotherapy course which will be followed by a course of radiotherapy.

She said: "I wouldn't have any qualms about doing it again if my hair grows back. If anyone else is in the same position, and is about to lose their hair, I'd say do something with it."
