A hunger for action has turned York City's newest recruit Peter Hawkins into a happy Wimbledon wanderer, writes Dave Stanford.
SETTLING IN: Defender Peter Webster, York City's loan signing from Wimbledon at Bootham Crescent
Starved of first-team opportunities, the 21-year-old said he had no regrets about making a loan switch from Premiership to Division Three.
In fact, speaking to the Evening Press, the Maidstone-born defender revealed he had pleaded for just such a move.
"It wasn't a hard decision, I haven't played for the first team at Wimbledon and I need first team experience so it is bonus to come here and play," he said.
"This something I wanted to do. About two weeks before I told the manager (Egil Olsen) that if I wasn't in their plans I would like to go on loan."
Now Hawkins is poised to make his senior debut for City at home to Exeter on Saturday and admits the day can't come soon enough.
"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "I don't really get nervous that much before games and it will be just good for me to get whatever experience I can."
A regular member of the Dons'reserve team, Hawkins has been signed by Terry Dolan to play left back but the player himself said he is happy to play anywhere across the back four.
Having first been sounded out about the move to City last Thursday, Hawkins said he had not had time to consider whether his move north could be made permanent at the end of his loan spell.
"I don't know is the honest answer, I am here for the month and we will see what happens after then," he said.
"Wimbledon is well-run club but it is just hard for me to break in.
"I have been a substitute with Wimbledon and in the first team squad on occasions and obviously I have played in friendly matches.
"But Ben Thatcher and Alan Kimble are ahead of me, they are obviously two good players.
"If the time comes for me to move on and the offer is right then so be it."
Hawkins is the second player from a Premiership club to be brought to Bootham Crescent by Terry Dolan since his appointment.
Bradford City's left-sided defender Mark Bower is a week into a month-long loan deal.
