About 40 workers from the shut-down Malton Clothing factory in Norton today started commuting to and from another plant in Driffield.

They made the journey of about 18 miles aboard a bus laid on by their parent company, the Scunthorpe-based Tasou Group.

The former Dewhirst factory in Welham Road, Norton, was renamed Malton Clothing after being taken over by the Tasou Group in May, 1998.

Just over half of the 77 employees at Norton opted to accept an offer to transfer to Driffield, but 37 have lost their jobs.
