The euro, once heralded as a major competitor to the dollar, has turned out to be a very weak currency indeed, having lost more than 16 per cent of its value. The City of London has done very well outside the eurozone.

The EU has its own currency, its own army and is developing its own legal system. It has also begun deciding which political parties are acceptable in elections and which are not. This is a serious development which could threaten free elections and representative democracy itself. The single European state is tightening its grip.

As the next general election is now much closer, we should all be examining which political parties and politicians are fighting for Britain and which are conniving in the process of plunging us ever deeper into the EU.

The Campaign for an Independent Britain is a cross-party organisation dedicated to preserving our nation's independence.
