York-born actress Dame Judi Dench was in the city today to collect a Millennium Person of the Present award.
She was joining other luminaries for a prestigious lunch at York's Mansion House.
The Millennium Person competition was jointly organised by the Evening Press, the City of York Council and BBC Radio York.
After the lunch a special riverside walk from Lendal Bridge to Clifton Bridge was being named after Dame Judi and Joseph Rowntree, voted Millennium Person of the Past.
Dame Judi - who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I in the film Shakespeare in Love - beat off competition from other local heroes like that other 'Dame', pantomime star Berwick Kaler.
