Evening Press Reader's Letter

We want a volunteer to work in the prison service.

Each prison has a Board Of Visitors, (BOV). This is a statutory body appointed by the Home Secretary to act as 'his eyes and ears' within each prison. This monitors the treatment of prisoners and ensures the prison is running effectively.

The women's open prison at Askham Richard village has a vacancy for a board member. Applicants should be over 18, live within 20 miles of the prison and be available to spend between two and three half days a month on board business. Training is provided and travelling expenses will be reimbursed.

Further details can be obtained from the Chairman of the Board Of Visitors, HM Prison Askham Grange, York YO23 3FT, or ring 01904 704236.

Graeme Robertson,

Press Officer to the BOV,

Askham Grange.
