The final matches of the York Exhibition Hotel Group League season saw the division one champions, Shepherds 'A', recording a slender 5-4 win over nearest contenders Dringhouses.

From a Dringhouses point of view the result took on more disappointment as Cygnet won 7-2 at Railway Institute which meant Cygnet took over the runners-up spot.

In York Brewery League division one, an excellent 15 darter, which included a maximum 180 and 100 check-out by Chris Thompson propelled Britannia to a convincing 7-2 win over Volunteer.

Mick Bell (20) and Andy Scott (17) also showed outstanding form while Paul Botterill was the only singles success for Volunteer.

Clifton's Vince Gothard hit 180 against Punch, but steady darts from John Holmes (20) followed by Paul Brandon (21) got Punch back into the reckoning. Martin Hagan (18) was in good form, but it was consistent scoring in the pairs which took Punch to a 5-4 victory.

Mitre went down 5-4 at Escrick, despite a fine 19 darter and 180 in the pairs from John Smith. Mark Blundell and Steve Verity clinched the match but Neil Long and Graham Sanderson combined in the last pairs to retrieve the aggregate point.

Leeman's only singles success was Phil Smith who included two tons and 180 for 17 darts. Slipper won 7-2.

In the division two top of the table clash Steve Simpson had a marvellous 18 darter for Burton Stone who then took the three pairs to record a 6-3 win over the leaders Dick Turpin. Burton are just two points behind.
