The Normark Armley Angling-backed spring series saw the 40 entry struggle at Carpvale with York's Tony Marshall winning with just 16-15-0.

Drawn on peg 40 he took three carp on long pole and maggot plus a solitary bream on short pole and worm.

Close behind was Ian Brayshaw (JT Rogers) who had small carp on pole and paste from peg 32 for 16-10-0.

Others: Neil Horne (Headingley Angling) 16-7-0; Paul Jackson (Darlington Angling Centre) 15-8-0; Dave Wright (Team Daiwa Armley Angling) 15-5-0; Dave Armitage (Normark) 14-4-0.

The 29 peg Anglers Corner event at Raker went to Andrew Geldart of Team Normark. Putting in an impressive show of long pole fishing, he wielded 18 metres of carbon at peg 18 to extract carp to 4lb on corn for his runaway 45-4-0.

At the next peg, 19, Simon Keddy (Dick Clegg Ossett) used similar tactics but chose to fish at 16m and finished well short on 28-10-0.

Others: Paul Cust (Leeds Gem) 23-6-0; Gary Matthews (Castleford) 18-3-0; Paul Kozyra (Anglers Corner) 17-9-0; Mark Green (Dick Clegg Ossett) 14-12-0.

The 47 entry Oaks open was fished on the new Poplar lake at the Sessay fishery with encouraging results.

Lots of small carp were in evidence but it was the odd bonus fish that made all the difference.

Drawn on peg 36, Vince O'Conner (Normark) used a 14m pole with maggot for his 27-10-0 net of carp. Peter Naylor (Headingley Angling) was on peg 32 where he took small carp at 11m on maggot over sillybait. A switch to the margins with corn saw him take a couple of bonus fish which boosted him to 22-7-0.

Others: Pete Nixon (Middlesborough Newman Scotts) 22-6-0; Andrew Wilby (Leeds) 21-1-0; Chris Purcey (EJC Tackle) 18-8-0; Mick Herrington (Headingley Angling) 17-8-0.

The Selby Canal at Burn hosted the 53 peg Goole Spring League which was made harder with the addition of coloured water overnight. Kev Hartley (Dick Clegg Bradford) scored a convincing victory from peg 50.

Fishing pole and pinkie over loose fed squatt, he netted roach and skimmers for 7-6-0. The same tactics also proved successful for Dean Kenworthy (Dick Clegg Barnsley) who netted 5-3-0 from peg 67.

Others: Ian Exley (Dam Brighouse Geers) 4-10-0; Andy Barker (JGG) and Tony Humprhies (Dick Clegg Ossett) both 4-5-0; Alan Taylor (Dick Clegg Bradford) 3-13-0.

Weights failed to live up to expectations for the 71 sell-out on Partridge and Skylark at Wooodlands as overnight frosts quelled the appetites of the fish.

Chris Dennis (Dam Brighouse Geers) led the way from corner peg 1 on Partridge. Fishing pole and maggot into the corner he took small carp plus a bonus lump of 10-3-0 for his 24-14-0 total. Colin Wilkinson (Leeds) was on Skylark 28 and feeder fished maggot for his 16-15-0 of carp to 7lb.

Others: Bill Blythe (Middlesborough Newman Scotts) and Peter Nixon (Middlesborough Newman Scotts) both 16-0-0; Dave Cooper (Darlington Angling Centre) and Bob Rymer (Dam Brighouse Geers) both 15-11-0.

The Wednesday event drew 34 to Dragonfly and Mallard and went to Darryl Taylor (MAP Elton) with 50-2-0.

Alternating corn and maggot at 11 metres from Mallard 13, he netted carp to 7lb. Gordon Poole (KL Tackle) used a groundbait feeder from Gragonfly 1 for his 49-6-0 net.

Others: Bill Blythe (Middlesborough Newman Scotts) 35-5-0; Darren Bainbridge (Darlington) 31-14-0; Peter Jones (Normark) 31-4-0; Nigel Johnson (MAP Elton) 30-14-0.
