NORTH Yorkshire's world featherweight champion Paul Ingle will go ahead with his title defence against Brooklyn's Junior Jones - even if the weigh-in takes place on 9am on the day of the fight.

Ingle said: "I'm annoyed. The whole thing has been a mess up. I've never been given the respect I deserve as a champion, and that's not being a prima donna. I'm not that sort of guy."

The Scarborough fighter had threatened to walk out of the fight unless the weigh-in was switched to Friday to prevent problems with dehydration.

His promoter Panos Eliades and manager Frank Maloney have made representations to the New York commission, as world title weigh-ins these days are held 24 hours before the event, but they are refusing to budge.

International Boxing Federation champ Ingle said lessons had been learned: "I'll know in the future if I come again and make sure all the plans are put in place before I leave home."

A website dedicated to Scarborough's favourite son is now up and running - www.paulingle.co.uk

Fight fans can read a full report of both Ingle's fight and Lennox Lewis' defence against Michael Grant will be published in Monday's Evening Press.
