SUCCESS has followed success at Malton and Norton Golf Club.

Emma Duggleby was crowned English Ladies Closed Amateur champion at Hunstanton, Norfolk, on Saturday.

Her triumph comes hot on the heels of club-mate Simon Dyson's stunning victories in the Macau and China Opens on the Asian Tour.

The 28-year-old crushed her fellow Curtis Cup team-mate Rebecca Hudson (Wheatley, Doncaster) four and three in the 18-hole final.

The pressure was on for Hudson as they reached the 15th green but she ensured Duggleby had to work for her win by holing a 20 foot putt. Duggleby kept her cool and confidently rolled in a 10-footer to ensure the title.

It was revenge for Duggleby, who was defeated in the Yorkshire County final by Hudson last year.

Duggleby, the 1994 British champion and a former English champion, had been on sparkling form throughout the OCS-sponsored English Ladies tournament.

She swept aside all-comers in the early rounds before beating Anne Wheble (Dartford, Kent) 3 and 2 in the quarter-final and edging out Lancashire's Andrea Peacock on the final hole of their semi-final.

Duggleby and Dyson have really put Malton and Norton on the map, but Dyson lost his touch in the Ericsson Classic in Taipei, where he finished 43rd when going for a hat-trick of titles.

He shot a final round 74 to add to his 73, 74 and 70 and is returning to England today to play in the Compass English Open at Forest of Arden this week.

The Tapei event was won by South African James Kingston by five shots from Andrew Pitts (USA).
