GREG Stone is leaving the football terraces to walk into the political arena. The leading member of York City fans group FACT is to stand as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Vale of York seat.
By doing this, Mr Stone goes from one controversial adversary to another. He will no longer be waving a red card at City chairman Douglas Craig; instead he hopes to give Tory MP Anne McIntosh her marching orders.
We hope Mr Stone has his shinpads ready. Politics, it is universally acknowledged, is the dirtiest game around.
One thing is certain: to be elected he will need to gain more support than York City.
