AS I passed through Micklegate I noticed seven empty shops. George Hudson Street is much worse with the Victoria House building and the old Safeways supermarket completely boarded up - what a depressing sight.
I cannot understand the council rejecting the idea of rebuilding Victoria House into a large hotel even if it gives a new modern image outlook.
It would certainly give the street into a new lease of life and attract more people into the area.
When you consider the monstrosity of the buildings in Stonebow in comparison to the new structure in George Hudson Street - what a difference.
I do hope the council will come to an agreement with the builders and bring some life back into the area to attract more shoppers and visitors.
The area has been in a very dilapidated condition for too long. Action please.
