EQUAL rights supremo John Taylor, from Norton, is today celebrating having received travel concessions for public transport.

Mr Taylor, who turned 65 at the weekend, is calling on the Government to give men and women concessions at 60.

"At the moment you could get a successful businesswoman at 60 who can claim a pension and travel concessions but a man who is 65 and unemployed would not qualify," said Mr Taylor, York and District organiser for the campaign group Parity.

Parity is currently seeking a judicial review on the issue of travel concessions and have launched a case through the European court.

It claims the Government's new Transport Bill will increase discrimination by forcing local authorities to give travel concessions to men and women at different ages.
