IN response to the article by Dan Beergutstein in Bar Talk (May 27), I found his description of the popularity of the Rose and Crown pub off Lawrence Street extremely unfair and unusually bitter.

I was a regular during Peter Brooks' time as landlord there. Peter did bring a new friendliness to the pub.

Instead of not continuing this trend, as suggested in the article, the current managers have built on what Peter started and have made the place even friendlier by their hard work. This is easily proved by the increased numbers of customers.

As for the very inaccurate comments about the landlord's dog, it is a pedigree Alsatian who is a very popular, occasional addition to the bar - it is not mangy and does not have similarly described sleeping quarters.

The person who wrote this article is not writing for the interests of the pub-going masses but has an agenda of his own.

Hopefully, intelligent readers will see through this. Those in any doubt simply must go to the pub and find out for themselves.

They won't be disappointed.
