SECOND-hand child car seats should be banned and shops which sell new seats should be made to fit them.
These are the key demands of a new campaign aimed at improving the safety of children travelling in cars.
It follows a survey which found eight in ten child car seats checked at supermarket car parks across the UK were incorrectly fitted.
Every year, hundreds of child passengers are killed or injured on Britain's roads.
Experts say a collision at just 5mph can kill an unrestrained child and that 90 per cent of fatalities could be avoided if children were properly strapped in.
The survey was carried out for Mother & Baby Magazine with the help of road safety experts and fitters from car seat manufacturers.
