REGARDING the extra money to be allocated from national health funds to York District Hospital, the indication is that this will mainly be concerned with refurbishing the main entrance.

Why is this a pressing need? This area seems to be fine just as it is. A welcoming atmosphere, comfortable chairs and a splendid little tea bar.

Earlier this year I spent two weeks as a patient in this hospital. The nursing, and most particularly the medical care, was excellent, but I found the sort of wishbone-like ear radio receivers very ineffective. Several kind offers of help proved to be of no avail and I certainly would have welcomed something more manageable. Perhaps some of this extra money could be allocated to aspects of in-patient welfare.
