Malton and Norton golfer Simon Dyson, 22, has taken a big step towards qualifying for this year's Open at St Andrew's.
He shot a four-under par 68, one behind the leader Fraser Mann (Musselburgh) in the regional qualifier at Carlisle
His final qualification will be over 36 holes at Scotscraig on Sunday and Monday.
Four courses will decide the final places in the Open. Each will have 120 players competing for only around a dozen places. The Open starts on Thursday, July 20.
