AS parents of an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) sufferer, we were very interested in the article in the Evening Press (July 24). We would, however, like to clarify a point which may have given the wrong impression of these unfortunate sufferers.

They are usually highly intelligent, sensitive people - many well-known figures in history and the present day had and have OCD.

The phrase "someone might have thought about murdering their daughter or having an impulse to stick a knife in her" was extremely unfortunate and distressing. The impression may have been given that OCD sufferers would harm others. Far from it, if they ever thought of harming anyone, it would be themselves, as they turn anger and frustration against themselves not others.

We have seen a proof of Helen Miller's book and would recommend it as an important work as very little is known about the suffering of people with OCD.

Our deepest sympathy goes to Mr and Mrs Moir at this tragic time.
