I WAS delighted to see the York Civic Trust standing up for the city on Coppergate II.
I cannot think of a worse addition to this city than a shopping scheme so far removed from the centre it would devalue and dilute everything York stands for. Yet I doubt if this council can see this objectively. This city has long owed a great debt to John Shannon and his colleagues, unlike the five-minute wonders behind this scheme.
