A MOTHER is warning parents to keep a close eye on their children after two men allegedly tried to abduct her teenage son.

Stephen Martin, 15, of Lerecroft Road, Dringhouses, York, says he was leaving the Moor Lane youth club on Thursday night when a man jumped out of a battered old white car and chased him, while another man swerved the car towards him, trying to corner him.

Stephen kicked out and climbed over a fence, eventually running into a garden for safety.

"I was absolutely terrified," he said after his ordeal.

"I noticed that these two men had been hanging around and thought they looked a bit suspicious.

"And when I started to walk home they just went for me. I was lucky to escape."

Stephen then hammered on the door of a house to get help and an elderly man let him in and comforted him for half-an-hour before he walked for five minutes up the road to his home.

Stephen's Mum, Susan, said: "He was crying and shaking all over when he got home, he was absolutely petrified.

"Stephen normally walks home with his friends, but left the youth club early and there was no-one around.

"I'm just extremely concerned that these men could strike again and the next child might not be so lucky."

Stephen, who has just left Lowfield School and starts college in September, did not get a good look at the two men, because he was too scared.

But he believes the car was a Vauxhall Cavalier or similar.

York police confirmed they patrolled the area after the incident and are continuing inquiries.
