A FATHER and son from York suffered a double blow when they both lost their "wheels" on the same day.

David Waggott's £300 bike, which he had only just bought, was stolen while he was out on his paper round in Woodlands Grove, off Stockton Lane.

Then dad Kevin was "gutted" when his Ford Escort Popular was stolen late the same night from outside their home in First Avenue, Heworth.

Kevin has the consolation that his car has been found by police, dumped in Morritt Close with stolen property including a petrol-driven lawnmower inside it.

But 13-year-old David, a pupil at All Saints' School, has had no news of his red and silver Team Saracen racing bike, which has front and back suspension and 21 gears.

Kevin said David had intended using the money from his paper round to pay for the bike - but it had gone before he could even start paying.

He left the bike at the top of a drive at about 3.30pm last Wednesday, and only knew something was wrong when some builders started shouting that a youth was riding away on it.

Kevin said: "David is heartbroken at the fact that it's gone, because it's a lovely machine and he was hoping to get the most out of it for the summer, and he was hoping to use it for school when the term starts."

Kevin is offering a £100 reward for any information that leads to the recovery of the bike and the arrest of the thief. Anyone who can help should contact the police help desk on York 631321.
