MORE worried customers of holiday firm Global Vacations have come forward following Evening Press revelations that the firm's York office has suddenly shut down.

The paper has received a steady stream of calls from readers who have paid the firm up to £4,500, expecting to enjoy a lifetime of cheap luxury holidays.

Customers said they had become concerned in recent weeks that they were not receiving the level of service that they had anticipated.

And one man said he had paid the firm £100 last August after attending a presentation evening at the firm's York office off Walmgate, but had still not received the "free" holiday he had been promised.

Another man said he had paid out £3,500 in May and was increasingly concerned about the firm.

A third caller said he had paid the firm £500 in March but been so unhappy with the subsequent response that he had demanded his money back. After repeated calls to the York offices, he had eventually got a £300 refund.

A woman said she had paid £120 expecting two free holidays but had experienced massive problems in trying to book her vacations.

Some readers were planning to lodge a complaint with North Yorkshire fraud squad, who revealed on Saturday that they are looking at Global Vacations to assess whether a full police investigation was justified.

Global Vacations' Manchester head office was repeatedly engaged when the Evening Press attempted to call.
