These three youngsters from Barbican Karate Club received awards for outstanding achievement at the club's junior grading examinations.
Nine-year-old Nick Baker (left), a pupil at Copmanthorpe Primary School, won the trophy for Best Kumite (free fighting); Emma Swanton, 10, from Upper Poppleton Primary was named Best Overall Student and Calvin Benton (right), 7, of Warthill Primary School, won Best Kata (set forms).
Barbican chief instructor Rob Loft said: "The children are going to do well. They have picked up on the true meaning of karate-do by learning discipline, control and technique that will benefit them in their sporting lives."
