Manager: Kevin Ratcliffe
Stadium: Gay Meadow
Capacity: 8,000
Last Season: 22nd
Comings and goings
Out: Lee Steele (Brighton, free), Mark Winstanley (Carlisle, free), Austin Berkley (Barnet, free), Scott Cookey (Hereford, free), Craig Herbert, (released).
In: Striker Chris Freestone (Hartlepool, free), winger Sam Aiston (Sunderland, £50,000), defender Iain Jenkins (Dundee United, free), striker Nigel Jemson (Oxford, free) striker Ryan Lowe (Burscough, free)
One to watch: Geordie Sam Aiston proved a big hit with Shrews fans when he arrived on loan from Sunderland at the end of last season. An out and out winger, Aiston loves to take players on and is a fair crosser of the ball. The only part of his game that leaves a lot to be desired is his fin-ishing - Aiston has still to score a goal in senior football at the age of 23.
Odds: A number of impressive summer signings, including Northern Ireland international defender Iain Jenkins, has given fans at Gay Meadow cause for optimism after the nerve-jangling last day escape from relegation to the Conference. If striker Chris Freestone can rediscover his touch in front of goal then town could be in with a chance of better times, but expect no more than mid-table at best.
