One to watch: The best is yet to come from Simon Davies, who began his footballing career at Old Trafford and was part of the same youth team as David Beckham, Paul Scholes and the Neville brothers, Gary and Phil. However, despite playing for the Red Devils in the European Cup, and even scoring in Manchester United's 4-0 demolition of Galatasary, it soon became clear that his future lay elsewhere. After a couple of loan spells at Exeter and Huddersfield he secured a £200,000 transfer to Luton Town. He made around thirty appearances for the Hatters before moving to Macclesfield and while impressing in patches at Moss Rose there are those who believe his potential has yet to be realised. Has pedigree and if Steve Parkin can add consistency and control his temper - Davies was sent off against York City last year - the former United man should make his mark.

Odds: Parkin's new regime created a buzz around Spotland not savoured for many a season. His side gained plaudits for their considered football and some careful tinkering of the squad over the summer, adding genuine quality in crucial areas, could see Rochdale make the leap from nearly men to serious contenders.
