Manager: Steve Cotterill

Comings and goings

In: Striker Jason White (Rotherham, free), striker Julian Alsop (Swansea, free)

One to watch: Local lad made good Martin Devaney wandered into Whaddon Road at the start of last season having been released by Coventry City and impressed in pre-season to earn a contract.

However, he promptly broke two bones in a foot and it was not until February that he returned to action. A nimble and fleet-footed attack-minded midfielder, he bagged seven goals in just 19 starts and having just turned 20 is expected to get better and better.

Odds: Continued the impact Conference-promoted teams tend to make in their debut season in the Football League and would have qualified for the play-offs but for a final day defeat at Southend. Anything other than relegation was considered a success last term but now expectations are higher and how the Robins respond to the new pressure will determine their fate.

Manager Steve Cotterill has boosted his firepower with the acquisitions of Jason White and Julian Alsop but Cheltenham's pre-season form has been very disappointing.
