Pressure on Duffield to come up with the scoring touch.

GOAL greedy Peter Duffield is gunning to start York City's season with a bang.

The summer acquisition from Darlington has bagged three goals in an impressive pre-season but admits they will count for nothing come tomorrow's opening Division Three clash at Chesterfield.

Duffield, charged with improving last season's woeful showing in front of goal, said: "I've scored three but having played against two non-league teams I would have liked to have scored more if I am being honest.

"It is nice to score because it takes the pressure of a little bit, but if I hadn't have scored it wouldn't have worried me because Saturday is the big one.

"If I hadn't scored during pre-season then I go get a goal on Saturday and it is an important one then people will forget about what's gone before."

Duffield admitted City's pre-season preparations had gone well.

"But we will see how good we are now because Saturday is when it counts.

"The other games are important for confidence and fitness especially, but Saturday is what it is all about and you look to get off to a good start.

"Once you get that first win under your belt you are up and running."

Despite a career spanning 13 years and 13 clubs, Duffield said he will still be nervous come kick-off time tomorrow.

"I have done reasonably well over the pre-season period but the fans will soon forget that if you don't start scoring in League games," he said.

"I have got the management, a new set of players and a new set of fans to impress so obviously there are going to be a few butterflies but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

"You need that, it keeps you motivated and makes you go out and give 100 per cent."

Tomorrow's match will provide an added twist for Duffield, who will line-up against former York City skipper Steve Tutill.

Both Duffield and Tutill were in the Darlington side that tasted defeat in last season's Wembley play-off final against Peterborough.

"It is probably not a bad time to play Chesterfield, who are going to be one of the title favourites," said Duffield.

"They have signed a lot of new players and they are not probably fully into the swing of knowing each other.

"I know 'Tuts' is very competitive, that is his major strength, but it is up to me to keep the ball away from him because he does like to tackle.

"We are good friends but that will be all forgotten tomorrow come kick-off."

The Middlesbrough-born striker has been paired with both Mark Sertori and Barry Conlon during the pre-season games and gave an insight into manager Dolan's thinking.

"Barry likes to get a little bit more involved in the play than the gaffer likes, while Mark will get around the back and get at the back stick. We have done a lot of work with Barry in pre-season on getting in the box and being a target for us.

"But I have enjoyed playing with all of them and as a striker you just want to be in the team no matter who plays alongside you."
